This album presents works by Henri Matisse housed in two major Soviet museums; the Pushkin Museum of Fine Arts in Moscow and the Hermitage in Lenningrad. The Soviet collection of Matisse's, one of the most representative in the world, boasts such masterpieces as The Red Room, The Artist's Family, The Moroccan Triptych and The Companion Panels: The Dance and Music. The paintings and sculptures reproduced in the album, accompanied by detailed notes, analogs and bibiography allow the reader to trace the evolution of Matisse's work throughout his life.
